Letters and Sounds is the programme we follow to teach phonics. In the Nursery preschoolers do Phase 1 of Letters and Sounds. This phase helps prepare the children for learning their alphabet sounds to be able to learn to read later on. Phase 1 of Letters and Sounds concentrates on developing children's careful listening skills, which lays the foundations for the phonic work in Phase 2. Children will progress to Phase 2 once they are ready.
